18th June 2010

After making my last 3 pages for my website consisting of venues/gigs, upcoming festivals and a contact page i finished my site. I had to use two disks in the process of burning my site onto a disk because the first attempt failed as i didnt save images into the folfer i used which contained my site pages and when i opened the site up in safari the picutures never exsited the second attempt worked however and can be used perfectly in safari.

28th May 2010

The product is now finally burnt on a disk and by using a bigger memory stick it seemed that the documentary would move onto the disk qiucker, this may have been because the more room remaining on the stick which let it get pasted ont othe tick qiucker. I also managed to finish my evaluation and handed both in along with my folder.

27th May 2010

Today was the deadline date for the documentary product, unfortunatly we didnt manage to hand it in on time due to technical difficulties with the edit suite a simple burn on to DVD was not possible and instead we had to wait untill the next day because the time it was giving us intill burnt was 2+ hours and that was just to burn it on to the memory stick because we had to it in something called a qiucktime converstion which meant we had to get it on a memory stick big enough to fit it on first and then burn it in a different room off the memory stick and then onto a disk.
But the product did get finished, there were issues with making a good enough looking astons/titles though and went through many different types of software because some wernt working at the time. In the end I sufficed for a simple title made on final cut pro with a black box background on it.

26th May 2010

Today me, Adam and Josh were the only ones in and we continued to crack on with the same worh we had been doing over the past 2 days. Plus without a cutaway which can show "Trevor" doing his job of tutoring young offenders his interview is pretty pointless including it in the documentary so we have decided to not include it. Josh seems unsure about including Joe Hibberts interview in the documentary while on the other hand i think Joe has some valid points and having worked with young offenders before makes him a pretty important part of our documentary.

25th May 2010

Today it seemed like me, Josh and Adam are the only people turning up for college in our group or at least staying the full lentgh of the day as for the other 3 girls they either come in really late or not at all or go home extremely early. I told adam what we were missing in terms of pre-production and we attempted getting other people in the group to contribute towards the missing pre production work but didnt get very far, this made things difficult because me and josh were already editing and busy with other college work and adam was doing production work aswell, this ended up with me and Adam doing the majority of the pre production work such as location recce's, contact deatails, logistics, shot list's and scripts although josh had chance to help with one of the scripts. Also with having the evaluation also in the same time as the FMP, this was cutting our time even shorter but by managing time a little better i was managing to get the evaluation done aswell as editing the documentary.

24th May 2010

We have the footage we can possibly get now being so close to the dealine of the FMP assignment and the final product lies on mine and josh's shoulders really on how well we edit it. I have to admint though due to the content we have and not having many cutaways at all this will be hard to make to look really good. Josh captured the interview with Joe Hibbbert and experimented in where it fit in amongst the other interviews and when Josh was done I continued the online edit. Iv'e found it extremely hard to edit the footage weve had with the rest of the group hanging around doing nothing though and messing around by the suites unfortunatly and this is slowing the production down. I also talked to Andy about any pre-production work we may be missing or to make sure what we included was in the folder.

21st May 2010

This morning i finnaly finished my web page for the Music based programmin assignment this is now ready to be linked to the other pages next friday. The finishing touches included adding tables at the bottom of my page which displayed upcoming gigs with times and prices and who was playing and i had to stretch the body, left div and right div so that everything fit in comfortably.

We are also interviewing joe hibbert today because he has had good expierience with working with young offenders on a project called sound base.

20th May 2010

The others in my group looked at what i had changed and were pleased apart from that the title's i had given to some of the interviewee's were wrong but this was only rough and can be changed, this helped show what are kind of heading towards. Cara interviewed the mother of a young offender getting her opinions this was also captured and put in the bin along with the other clips i had also got the typewriting sound effects sorted for Opening Title.

19th May 2010

Me and Adam were scheduled to go down to wolverhampton today to meet and record the opinions and facts that Pauline Jones had to tell us, she worked for job centre plus and had alot of interesting facts to tell us as for what she had done and what young offenders she had worked with. Considering it took us about 1 hour 40 mins to get there it was a shame we only got about 7 mins of sound footage but what we got was all important to our documentary and very relevant. When me and adam got back at about 1 o'clock i put the sound files onto the editing suite we were using and listened to it back and was pleased with what we got. I then spent the next 3 hours purely starting on the online edit and did coulor correction, titles and edited the sound so everything sounded equal.

18th May 2010

Today was spent purely around the editing suites really, me and josh carried on working on the edit suite doing the same as yesterday and i carried on with some sound work, i also found some time to work on my genre essay.

17th May 2010

Me and Josh worked on the editing qiute this morning analysing diferent ways of putting the clips on the timeline in different orders and the effect it made on the viewer, so we now have 2 timelines, the original one we started on and a more recent one which is more up to date, i also put myself on the editing suite next to the one we were originally working on and lookfor typewriting sound effects and other sfx which would work well with or documentary where background music was possible to include.

In sharons lesson i carried on with my freelance portfolio i mentioned how i would work in that industry in terms of health and safety and how i would keep myself healthy and how i would manage my time so that deadlines were met on time and the production ran smoothly. on

14th May 2010

Colin's lesson: i have now fnished m actualy webpage for the radio shows which will eventually be connected to everyone else when they are finished. I have decided to make my own website consisting of around 5 pages about Music in general this include top artists, upcoming gigs and festivals and music news. I will use the layout and colour scheme that i have already used on the radio show page i made because it is attractive and the colour scheme works really well.

13th May 2010

On tuesday i thought i had captured all the vox pops but it seems they wernt saved which must have been my fault but when i got in Josh re-captured them and started moving them along the timeline to put a rough order to our documentary. This is hard because we really need more footage and a storyboard. I also got a new folder and started arranging my production folder for FMP.

11th May 2010

Today i worked closely with josh to start putting some of the footage together on the editing suite and then at about 11:00am i went into Stratford Town Centre and positioned myself on the road with subway on it because of the flock of people who move through there. I went with Cara and Lisa and we managed to record some quality vox pops on poeples views and stereotypical thoughts on youth offenders. I was on the camera while Cara went to try and get people to go in front of the camera and Lisa apperated sound. We got qiute a few people but unfortunatly we were catching most people on their lunch breaks so they didnt have time, this tells us in future though that is a better time to do the vox pops maybe earlier or around 1 we were told by the people of stratford.

10th May 2010

Today i got in and started capturing the previous footage that we had got. The footage contained the interview with Anne Mulliner, i watched this through and the footage came out really well although the volume of sound was a little low because she had qiute a qiuet voice but this can be edited to sound louder and equal to everyone else. The rest of the tape contained the footage from Upskill, this is what Adam, Josh and Emily went to get. Some of the footage contained some sensitive information from one of the guy's working there who had been addicted to heroine and he explained how upskill had changed him. We also got an interview with a guy called Trev who was one of the teachers/lecturer's he had some good opinion's and how he thought young offenders are treated but unfortunatly he did ramble on and repeat himself. The first interview was with Micheal Dunn and this turned out extremely bad. The crew were in the reflecion of the window, sound was awfull and the boom mic kept popping in the right hand corner of the shot like a little rat so this interview will need to be done again. We are in need of cutaways i feel and i am thinking of doing a reenactment of a crime possibly for the opening titles and a cut away of Trev teaching the young offenders would be brilliant thats if we go back in time.

In Sharons lesson we started on our freelance portfolio work, this reqiured me to critically anyalyse the state of the film industry because that is the area that i want to move into and then analyse the job role that i want to move into. In my case it would be editing so i need to evaluate what resources i will need to have and the attitude and skills i will also need to be able to handle a job like this.

7th May 2010

Adam, Josh and Emily drove down to Derby today to do an interview, we would have all gone but only 3-4 people were allowed and its extremely hard for me, cara and lisa to get up to sratford for 7:30 living so far away. At 12:30 i phoned josh to find out how it went and apparently it went really well and got some really sensetive responses. At 1:30 i split up from Lisa and Cara to practice editing since i am the main editor for our documentary.

In the website design lesson i got closer to finishing my webpage for music based programming, i also placed my hyper links on the left hand of my page, i have further fully understood CSS rules and how to apply them to my webpage. By next lesson the webpage will be finished and ill be working on my own website.

6th May 2010

Today was the scheduled day to interview Anne Muliner, we spent the morning rehearsing questions we were going to ask her and thought about how we were going to ask them so that we could get good replies giving us the information we need which will prove important and relative to the documentary. At 11 o'clock we set up and with phil's help we managed to make a good job of setting it up, with the camera angle and placement and we got to use a neck mic which belonged to phil. Sound came out really well and the white balance was good along. Unfortunatly because we had film studies we wont be able to look through the rushes untill monday.

3rd May 2010

This was our second attempt at our pitch but for our group it was more of a top up where we covered areas that we didnt in our pitch before. We managed to get all our points across to the lecturers/board and we able to answer all of the questions fired at us, we understood what we were talking about and were all on the same page.
Afterwards the group met up to talk about the interview we were going to do with Anne Muliner who works at Carrillion, we talked about what eqiupment we needed to get out and set the time of the interview at 11:30.

30th April 2010

Today we worked in Colin's lesson and carried on working on the website we were desgning. We learnt how to drop down menu's and apply them to our own pages, in my case i could use the drop down menu on my left hand side navigation bar and include hyperlinks in the drop down menu. I also to closer tofinishing the content of my page such as pictures and text information.

In John's lesson me and my group carried on with work towards our pitch we made the slides that we were missing to hit the higher grades, these were slides about things such as research methods and results and what the results have lef us two decision wise. We have also included slides about primary and secondary research and qualitative and quantitative research and a textual analysis on our documentary.

28th April 2010

We had John's lesson first thing today, this lesson we talked abou what we needed to include in our pitches the time next time round when we re-pitch again on tuesday, we went through the distinction criteria for the pitch and discussed the content we need to include in our pitch such as research methods and results and problems we may come across and how we would solve them.

27th April 2010

Today was our Pitch, for my group this took place at about midday. This gave us an extre few hours to make sure we had everything we needed and also gave us time to rehearse what we had to say, this was a great help and it was a shame we hadnt rehearsed earlier because without it we would have done pretty badly because we all had toruble wording things thoroughly beforehand. I also attempted to get in touch with the conservative party but they didnt seem very willing to help out when i asked if there was any chance we could have an interview but the liberal democrats on the other hand were more helpfull and reasonable, we agreed on doing an interview after the elections but this would only be usefull if they are elected. We completed the pitch and we seemed to do extremely well, we were told merit's across the board. Things we need to work on though were codes and conventions of our documentary and the problems that we may come across and how we would solve them. Another subject we needed to work on was research methids and techniques and then the results that we got usuing these methods.

26th April 2010

Today was really the last day we had to really finish and become fully prepared for our pitches. My group got together and put everything we had together over the weekened and included it in our slide show and research folder. Today was purely spent of getting ourselves prepared for the Pitch tommorow.

23rd April 2010

I had Colin's lesson today first thing and we carried on working on our web pages I made great headway today and managed to fully understand how to apply DIV tags and CSS rules effectively to be able to place my items such a pictures and text in a way that looks even and fits in well with everything else. By next lesson i should be very close to finishing the webpage for the radio show.

In John's lesson the group's got together and made good progress on the FMP Pitch, i created the slides such as that it was an interactive mode exapling why it was this mode because of the way we interacted with the interviewee and who they reponded back, i also created a slide which explained how i would advertise our documentary if it were to shown on public television.

22nd April 2010

In John's lessons today we started looking at the beginning of a few documentaries and recogniseing the different types such as observational and interactive etc, through this we need to work out what type of documentary ours will be and and make sure we use the right conventions of that type of structure, adam has managed to get his dad involved in our documentary and has got us a interview with a young offender and some of the higher ups in the company carilion who can give us information in interviews about what they provide the youth's who take these courses.

10th April 2010

Today we had a lesson with Phil, and my group moved into the radio room so that we could work away from distractions, we immidiatly started researching contacts so we could eventually get some matierial from interviews and cutaways using fottage we could get from the different work places. We got in contact with John Simpson who knew some information about the riverhouse project, a place for youth's who had got kicked out of all secondary school's could go to start programmes to help them in their education, through this we went on to talk to people like tricia berry and Tim Lozinski but we wernt able to get much information. We also spent time looking up different local YOI's to use so we could talk to young offenders and maybe the people in charge of keeping an eye on them. Also the presentation has been started on.

19th April, 2010

Logbook, Today we have worked towards our FMP, it has changed slightly and we are now aiming to find out what is done for offenders to help them move back into society, i have started researching what each parties policy's are towards young offenders and what is being done or not done to help the in the future or to stop these problems occuring in the first place, we have all started work towrds the treatment and plan to bring everyone's research together for tuesday the 20th.

Log Book, 16th April 2010

The groups have now been sorted out for FMP/Documentary. I have been grouped with Adam Smith, Josh Davies, Lisa Greenaway and Emily Churchill. We discussed ideas and came up with things like the opening of the Royal Shakespere Academy theatre and the funding for university's and college mainly, other things we thougt of were the problems of teenage drinking and and another more possible idea was looking at teenage offenders which would be more feasable being as the college deal with some of this already and there is a jail not far from here and a police station in stratford. on friday afternoon with grahams help we decided on looking at the problems of teenage offenders and what help is being given to bring them back into society safely. In lessons with phil we have talked about our pitch and what we need to bring into the pitch such as treatment, a multi media presentation, documents and the research to show were ready and prepared to do our documentary. We considered jails that we could get to so that we are able to talk to inmates who are up for talking about their situations, the possibilities are bidford and a prison in wolverhampton. Ideas that will add content towards are documentary is SBS the young offenders rehabilitation career's, a person who we can possibly talk to called Darren who Lisa knows who is an ex-offender and could be interviewed and we could research into what happens after they are released from jail.

Risk Assesment

-Fraud: Unlikely, things that can be taken to prevent this would be putting precautions in order such as pin code surrounding credit card's or if the problem is online a complicated password backed by a good firewall etc to avoid hackers getting into your financial information

-Harrasment/Cyber Bullying: Likely, this can happen qiute easily but can be relatively easily avoided if you set your settings on things like facebook to private on only add people that you know or trust so that you feel more comfortable about what you publish on your site/facebook etc

-Plaguerism: Likely, this can happen fairley easily aswell but site's software in this age now reference the time that things are posted say for example on this blod site im using, if someone copyied ad pasted all of this risk assesment and someone viewed both they would be abe to see that i had posted it first because the time and date referencing it would be earlier then the other person

-Hacking: Unlikely, most people's internet's are provided through routers now and these routers provide firewalls inside them along with a firewall in your computer such as windows firewall this prevents password hacking attacks getting your personal information along side of this you can have sensible but cmplicated password that silly attempts from people you know cannot perpretrate your information

-Cyberterrorism: Possible, this can be avoided by not psoting information about say for example stratford college and talking about the infra structure becasue this could lead towards a trategy to penetrate the college's security and steal information making people's lives much harder
Okkkkk, first blog, never used this before but Yeah!
